About

Maya Jedlicka is an accomplished dog trainer and the proud owner of Cosmic Canine. She began her pet care journey over 30 years ago as a veterinary technician, where she cultivated a deep understanding of canine care, health, and behavior. She realized her true calling as a dog trainer and began her formal dog training education in 2005, first teaching her own dogs and leading training classes. Maya further put her dog training skills into practice by training dogs for competition in Schutzhund (IGP), a canine sport requiring a high level of obedience. Since then, she has mastered her skills, become a title-winning Schutzhund competitor, and has personally helped countless dogs discover their best potential with quality training.

Driven by her love for dogs and her commitment to enhance their lives through training, Maya realized she could serve community pets and their parents even further. In 2017, she opened Cosmic Canine to provide quality, superior pet care services– all through the lens of dog training.

In addition to her dog training and pet care career, Maya received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Spanish, cum laude, from The University of Texas at Arlington and her Juris Doctor degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

About Our One-of-a-Kind Pet Care Team

Cosmic Canine is certified with the Department of Labor to provide a two-year dog training apprenticeship program for up-and-coming dog trainers. Our dog training apprentices often supervise and work with our playgroups, so elements of training are part of your dog’s everyday dog boarding or dog daycare experience. This could mean obedience practice, manners reinforcement, the redirection of undesirable behaviors, and other beneficial support.

At Cosmic Canine, we differ from other pet resorts and dog trainers not only in our mission, but in our methods. We appreciate that pet care is more than a job, it’s a passion. Our dog trainers, apprentices, and other staff have a deep dedication to dogs and a genuine desire to help them and their pet parents succeed. Additionally, we provide ongoing continuing education to our staff members to make sure they continue to sharpen their skills and never stop learning.

About

Introducing the CPDT:
Certified Professional Dog Trainer

Cosmic Canine proudly offers the Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) credential, awarded through our U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program, developed by MJK9 Ventures, LLC D/B/A Cosmic Canine.

This program is not just a certificate—it’s a federally recognized professional credential that sets our trainers apart with depth, rigor, and real-world experience.

CPDT Certification Requirements:

  • 288 Hours of Classroom Instruction
  • 2,000 Hours of Hands-On Supervised Training
  • Minimum 2-Year Apprenticeship
  • Progressive Evaluations and Skills Verification

Approved by the U.S. Department of Labor, the CPDT is designed to produce elite professionals equipped to train pets, solve behavior issues, and prepare dogs for advanced tasks.

Titled Dog Trainers (TDT)

Cosmic Canine also recognizes trainers with TDT designations, reflecting their level of accomplishment through earned dog titles. These can include AKC, IGP, and other recognized organizations.

TDT Levels:

  • TDT: Titled Dog Trainer (earned a recognized title in any organization, e.g., AKC Obedience, Rally, Agility)
  • TDT-N: National Level Titled Trainer
  • TDT-I: International Competition Titled Trainer

These designations demonstrate hands-on achievement in obedience, protection, tracking, and real-world performance evaluations, across AKC and other established title systems.

Proof in Performance

Some of our trainers are IGP National and World-Level Competitors in the sport of Schutzhund/IGP. Unlike classroom-based certifications, this discipline demands years of dedicated daily training and demonstrates mastery across the full spectrum of canine performance: obedience, tracking, and protection.

Requirements to Reach This Level:

  • Successfully train and title dogs in BH, IGP1–3, FH, and other advanced working titles
  • Qualify for and compete in national and international championships
  • Pass live, in-person evaluations conducted by licensed international judges
  • Consistently achieve precision, control, and reliability under the pressure of competition

This level of accomplishment represents proven skill, not theory. It is the ultimate demonstration that a trainer can produce reliable, world-class results with dogs under the highest standards of scrutiny.

Why It Matters

While many certifications offer convenience and letters behind a name, the CPDT and TDT designations deliver verified experience, federal recognition, and results-driven achievement. Our trainers aren’t just educated—they’re prepared, proven, and qualified.

Whether you’re working through behavioral issues or training a high-drive working dog, CPDT-certified and TDT-titled trainers bring unmatched skill and credibility.

Contact us today to work with a trainer who has earned more than just letters—they’ve earned results.
